News with Views
News with Views is exactly what it reads. News (not necessarily newsworthy), peppered with my views.
I’ve had it till here *leveling hand on top of my receding hairline* with the politically correct versions of news and general discourse. So here’s how I really think it is.
(Think it’s gonna be one long rolling post, with the latest bits on top.)
The first thing is, that if you don’t like it, please print out the application below, fill it, and then roll it, and then, ahem…

The Indian Presidential Elections
(News with Views for: Those into Indian Politics)
Publication – Almost every one in India.
The country is in the process of choosing its titular head. A name that is ideally supposed to represent India across the world.
Now would it be too hard to choose someone who is even recognizable to most Indians?
We’re all pretty aware that the presidential post has been filled as per the whims and fancies of the ruling dispensation. From Giani Zail Singh who (in)famously had this to say about Indira Gandhi: “If my leader had said I should pick up a broom and be a sweeper, I would have done that. She chose me to be President,” (sigh…) to Pratibha Patil (who?) chosen by Sonia Gandhi, we’ve had succession after succession leading to the post becoming a victim to loyalty & ideology.
I almost forgot about Dr. Kalam, chosen by Shri. A.B. Vajpayee. An absolute outlier, and every bit a deserving President that this country will see.
Now, Narendra Modi came to power in 2014 on the back of a massive mandate related to development, and as a Prime Minister we expected him to deliver on the stuff he’d promised on the campaign trail.
We’d wanted to see India develop not only in terms of pure commerce, but in terms of rule of law, in terms of national defence, in terms of modernization of institutions to make them relevant and even in terms of political discourse.
I am not going to comment on most, as I really could do without an FIR lodged against me.
However, in terms of political discourse and maneuvering, we stand as and where we have been for decades. Divided along lines of caste, divided along lines of religion, and resorting to populist moves aimed at pleasing large swathes of vote banks.
It’s so dis-heartening for me as an informed citizen, that through the global geo-politial shift that’s seeing the downfall of superpowers such as America and UK due to their panicked embrace of conservative politics, we’re stranded with political masters who’d rather hold on to power using jaded and toxic narratives, than work actively towards modernizing thought that is apt for the 21st century.

Okay. What did India expect? I’m sure we have an intelligence community that is more intelligent than me. And here’s what I had noticed:
- Pakistan has a territorial dispute with India
- China has a territorial dispute with China
- China has massive ongoing and upcoming investments in Pakistan
- China will need to protect its investment in Pakistan, so it will keep the rulers happy
- Nothing makes Pakistanis happier than screwing with India
- China has been increasingly territorial in international waters, literally building islands
- India has (rightly so) defended the sovereignty of Bhutan by standing up to China
- India has been hollowed out by corruption, while China has gone full steam for decades with economic and military expansion
- The US is being led by an idiot
- Russia has the US handled and is focusing on Europe, while China focuses on South, South-East Asia
- China would do very well with a weak India as its neighbour and Pakistan as its pet
- We’re kinda screwed
By not handling the Kashmir issue in time, we might just serve the perfect example of “a stitch in time…”
Problem is, the nine stitches will turn out to be pretty damn painful.
Was our intelligence community SO dumb that it didn’t see the Kashmir issue getting immersed in religious hues. ESPECIALLY when the Pandits were persecuted?
Were our ruling dispensations so spineless that they couldn’t suppress a religious-separatist movement while it still could be handled? Or was it that we needed an issue to fall back on in times of political need?
I’m not sure we’re ever going to find out the real answers.
However, what we may find out, is that letting a wound fester is never a good idea.
We may find out that we’ve offered our rivals a perfect pressure point, pressing which, will make us hurt.
Obviously China will help Pakistan destabilize Kashmir further. It’s our own stupidity that we let it come this far.
Oh, and by not integrating the North East with our mainland, by treating people from the region as outsiders, by ruling it with force rather than benefit, we’re just trying to defend ourselves with a weakened limb.

Just can’t be the bearer of good news, can I? SMH
At least 67 of them have died this year. And a lot of them due to conflict with humans (including poachers).
Well, the world is going to the shitter anyway. Humans can’t stop expanding in numbers. Especially in this beautiful country of ours. There isn’t enough available opportunities to ensure livelihood for the increasing numbers, so they fall to exploitation / plundering of natural resources.
If we develop economically, that automatically means destruction of habitat for wild animals (Development toh ho jaaye. Sustainability ki baad mein sochenge).
Plus traditional Chinese medicine, coupled with greed.
You tell me!
There is a very small minority which understands how rapidly and dangerously our ecology is devolving. This minority understands that right now, we’re ravaging natural entities, destroying resources and consuming mindlessly. That we’ve set a massive landslide in place and are working incessantly to remove all the barriers that’ll arrest its cataclysmic run.
That when the rocks and boulders come crashing down, we’ll be standing defenseless, having worked very hard towards our own obliteration.
BTW, your children will suffer the absolute worst.

I came across this piece last evening, and have been plotting my escape to the deep Himalayas ever since then. Mr. Wallace-Wells (Twitter: @dwallacewells) has been able to put together a worst case scenario related to global warming and climate change, and reading it is like getting punched in the solar plexus. Knocks the wind out.
As much a people will decry him for being an alarmist, I believe that given our current course, his collection of predictions will turn out to be the median path.
Remember, as much as the G-19 (G-20 minus the Cheeto colored fucktard) talk about or work towards reducing carbon emissions, no one is readily talking about the reduction of existing greenhouse gases. Also, the forests that effectively help in this regard are constantly being shrunk.
Basically, not only are we pushing more carbon into the system, we’re also simultaneously running out of the major antidote for this venom.
I see this happening in my own backyard where the powers-that-be are working incessantly to destroy south Haryana’s lungs. No one’s going to be able to stand in the face of massive profits for real estate developers (and hence massive donations for the enablers).
Those who make money will send their children abroad. Fortunately, those guys aren’t aware that the ripples won’t be limited by political boundaries.
Oh, and I have no hope for concentrated action towards keeping the planet habitable. I’d sent a link to the NY Mag article to 200 people. You know how many responded?
So either y’all are being ostriches, or found it a bit too long a read. Either ways, I think you deserve what’s coming. The ones who do give a damn, and are doing something about it, are just collateral.
Rahul Gandhi meets Chinese ambassador to India, the Congress has no idea what to say or do.
(News with Views for: those into Indian Politics)
Publication – Every One in India. Published – July 09, 2017
Another in an unending series of gaffes, RG met the ambassador. A news report surfaced.
Given that the current Sino-India relationship is anything but “bhai-bhai” and whatsapp messages decrying anything Chinese are prevalent enough to make me feel like a traitor for every plate of Sichuan Fried Rice consumed, this wasn’t the best timing.
People in the Congress literally tripped over each other to decry this “fake news”.
RG then emerges with “Yep. I did.”
People in the Congress literally tripped over each other.
I mean, bro. Like.
Nope. Can’t find words.
You know, I understand and appreciate the art of not giving a shit. But RG is an inspiration.
He wakes up and he does what he wants. The man CLEARLY is above everything else. The well-being of his empire included.
Maybe his aides should get that and let RG do the talking for RG.
But didn’t that happen and make everything worse for them?
Trump Jr. met some Russian Lawyer to score damaging info on Hillary
(News with Views for: those into American Politics)
Publication – CNN, NYT & all other “left leaners”. Published – July 09, 2017
Well look guys, it’s pretty clear that there’s a lot of caviar in this whole Russia – American election thing. However, IDK HOW a position of “Trump colluded with Russia to get damaging information about Hillary out” is going to help your cause.
The information WAS damaging isn’t it? The information wasn’t incorrect too.
There hasn’t been any proof of illegal manipulation of voting systems.
My question is just this, “If the democratic candidate wasn’t so shitty to begin with, would a third party even be able to sway opinions to any justifiable degree?”
Don’t think so.
Yeah sure, play the Russia card to call for an impeachment or to paint Trump as someone who doesn’t deserve to be in the oval office (as if any more painting is required for that). However if the left REALLY wants to win the upcoming, or ANY elections going forward, the primary effort should be to find people and narratives that aren’t just “not Trump”.
You want to win? Don’t pick up “part of the system” candidates.
The income disparity is too large for run-of-the-mill candidates to win. Trump won on lies and on pandering to the basest instincts. While those won’t get him a victory a second time, a lack of message and leadership that the masses can connect with, on your end could.
